Try Axate as a reader: a walk through the demo

The quickest way to judge a reader payment product is to pay with it. Our demo takes a couple of minutes, costs you nothing, and shows exactly what your audience would see.

You may be reading this article because you’ve already done this, but if not, here’s how.

We could describe the Axate user experience in a slide. We would rather you tried it. The demo on this site runs on the same product our media companies use, set up on our own articles in the Axate Demo.

The walkthrough, step by step

  1. Start the demo. Look at the green tab in the top left of the site. This is what every Axate-enabled publisher will have. Click Try Axate. You go to the Axate registration page, the same one your readers would see.

  2. Register once. Enter your email and create an account. It takes a few seconds, and there are no card details to add for the demo.

  3. Receive free credit. Your new wallet is loaded with credit to spend. Many media companies use the same mechanic at launch to make the first step easy.

  4. Return to the Demo. You land back on a page of premium articles. Notice the small Axate tab on the page: that is your wallet, and it shows your balance.

  5. Open a premium article. You see the opening lines, then a page notice with the price. One click unlocks the rest.

  6. Reach the free point. After the set number of paid articles, the rest of the period is free. Keep reading and you will not be charged again.

What each step means for your audience

  • One registration: Readers sign up once and can pay on any Axate title without signing up again

  • Free credit: A launch or promotional tool you control, best seen as low-cost customer acquisition

  • The Axate tab: A small, discreet wallet that sits on your pages and carries your brand alongside ours

  • The page notice: Your main call to action. You set the wording, colours, lead-in text and which products it offers

  • One-click payment: No checkout on every article, which removes most of the friction that stops casual purchases

  • The free point: A clear limit on what a reader spends in a day or week, so paying feels safe

Outside the demo, readers top up their wallet by card, Apple Pay, PayPal or voucher, and then return straight to the article they were reading. A reader who wants more can move to a subscription from the same wallet.

What the demo won’t show you, but you would control

  • Pricing. The price per article, the free point and the period, set by you.

  • Which content carries a price. Marked article by article or by category.

  • How much is shown before the page notice. We suggest around 300 characters: enough to interest, not enough to satisfy.

  • The data. A live dashboard of registrations and articles read, monthly financial reporting, and a secure portal for user and transaction data.

Next step

If the experience felt easy, that is the point.

Run the assessment to see what it could be worth on your own site, or book a call and we will walk through how it would be set up for your audience.
