The Lochside Press – FAQ

The Lochside Press has partnered with Axate as we introduce three easy ways to support us. If you’re a regular reader, you can subscribe for just £2.00 a month.  If you’re a more occasional reader, you can buy a day pass for just 20p a day. You can also make a contribution to support us – just click on the green banner above the comments section on any article.

1/ WHAT IS AXATE?

We are using Axate to provide two great ways to pay to read The Lochside Press with an Axate digital wallet. Once you sign up to Axate, you can choose to subscribe or pay per day. A subscription offers the best value.

If you prefer to pay per day, we’ll take a modest price whenever you choose to read one of our paid-for articles.

You can also support us with a one-off contribution at any time – you only need your email address and payment details.

2/ HOW DO I SIGN UP?

It’s really easy. You do not need to divulge lots of personal data, and you only need to sign up once. It takes no more than 2 minutes.  You only need your email address and payment details.

To register, click the green button whenever you’re asked to pay to read an article.  Or click on the green Axate tab on the left hand side of your screen, then click the “register” button.

You get started by uploading as little as £3 into your Axate wallet.

3/ HOW DOES PAY PER DAY WORK?

Each time you buy a day pass, 20p will be deducted from the amount you uploaded to your Axate wallet. A day pass will give you access to all our paid stories for 24 hours.

You only pay on the days that you read The Lochside Press.  If you don’t read anything, or if you read one of our free articles, you won’t pay anything.  If you don’t spend anything, your wallet stays at the same balance.

When your wallet runs low, you decide when to add more money to it. There is no fee to use an Axate wallet.

4/ HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE?

Once you have an Axate wallet, you can subscribe to The Lochside Press for just £2 per month.  Click the green Axate tab on the left of your screen, then click the link that says “Subscribe to The Lochside Press”.  It’s so simple you don’t even need to create a new account.

If you sign up in the middle of a month, your subscription will run until the middle of the following month. We take payment on the same day of the month on which you signed up.

You can cancel at any time. If you cancel, you can keep reading The Lochside Press until the end of your payment period. After that, if you would like to keep reading The Lochside Press, you can use your Axate account to pay per day.

5/ HOW DO I MAKE A CONTRIBUTION?

You can also support us by making a contribution.  Just click on the green banner above the comments section on any article. It only takes 2 minutes and all you need are your email address and your payment details.  You can choose the amount you want to contribute from 3 options. You can make a contribution as a one-off, or whenever you like – you don’t have to promise to make regular contributions.

6/ IS IT SECURE?

Yes. Axate uses Braintree, a PayPal company, to process payments, so you know your credit card details are secure.

7/ IS IT TRANSPARENT?

Yes. We want to make sure you know exactly what’s happening at all points. If you’re using pay per day, you can choose whether or not to actively say “yes” each time you buy a day pass. The green Axate tab on the side of your screen will always let know when you’ve been charged. The tab will also give you access to your account details.

8/ DO I GET A REFUND IF I CANCEL?

If you’re using pay-per-day, you can cancel within the first 14 days after you register, and you’ll get a full refund of your unspent balance.

If you cancel your subscription, it will run until the end of the month, and you won’t be charged for the next month. To cancel your subscription, click the green Axate tab.  Then click the settings icon in the bottom right to flip the wallet and see your subscription settings.

There are no refunds on subscriptions or contributions.

9/ HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY SUBSCRIPTION OR DAY PASS ENDS?

To check when the your subscription or your day pass ends, just click the green Axate tab on the left of your screen to open your Axate wallet.

10/ DO I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS EVERY TIME?

No. Once you’ve signed up, paying for a day pass is instantaneous. It’s also really easy to add a subscription. You won’t have to continually enter your payment details, or sign up for multiple sites. If you choose to pay automatically, you won’t even have to click anything. This system cuts out any hassle.

Even better, if you go to another Axate-enabled site it will just work there, too, without any more signing-up or topping-up. After that, you will be able to visit any other site which uses Axate without any further action.

11/ WHAT IF I WANT TO RE-READ SOMETHING?

Having paid for an article once, you can re-read it whenever you like, at no extra cost. If you wish to go back to something six months later, you can – there’s no time restriction.

12/ CAN I USE MY AXATE WALLET ON OTHER SITES?

You can use your Axate Wallet on a wide and expanding range of other titles. To keep up to date on where you can use Axate, just click here. If you sign up through us you will be helping to support us - even if you use the money to read articles elsewhere. The Lochside Pressbenefits every time you add money to your Axate wallet, regardless of where you spend the money. We think Axate have set up a sensible system of funding for digital publishing. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to graze across various websites without having to sign up or subscribe separately to each one.
