MusicOMH FAQs

musicOMH - Axate FAQ

musicOMH has partnered with Axate as we introduce two great ways to support us: a pay-per-article system and also a monthly subscription for our content.

The new system allows you to pay a small fee for articles, and once you have paid for two articles in a day you can read all content on our website for 24 hours. Or you can get unlimited access with a £5 per month subscription.

To read more about the reasons behind our new approach click here.

1/ YOU’RE ASKING ME TO PAY?

Yes, a little bit. . Since the site’s launch way back in 1999, musicOMH’s reviewsinterviews and features have been free to access for everyone, because we’ve always wanted our words about the music we love and its makers we admire to reach the widest possible audience.

But it is not free to operate. We incur significant costs on a monthly basis, and advertising revenue to content providers like us, which once helped to cover these costs, has declined dramatically.

So, we are asking for your support.

2/WHAT IS AXATE?

We are using Axate to provide this service. Axate is a payments system that works across every participating site without a need to re-register, and offers either a subscription or a pay-per-article way to pay.

3/ DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING?

No. If you read on pay-per-article, and pay for two paid articles in a day, you can read for free for the rest of the day. Alternatively, choose a £5 per month subscription to get unlimited access.

4/ HOW DO I SIGN UP?

It’s really easy. You can sign up from any of our articles - you’ll see the two buttons offering either pay per article, or subscribe. You do not need to divulge lots of personal data, and you only need to sign up once. It takes no more than 2 minutes.  After that, you will be able to visit any other site which uses Axate without any further action.

5/ IS IT SECURE?

Yes. Axate uses Braintree, a PayPal company, to process payments, so you know your credit card details are secure.

6/ IS IT TRANSPARENT?

Yes. We want to make sure you know exactly what’s happening at all points. If you choose pay-per-article, you can choose whether or not to actively authorise each payment, or you can pre-approve certain charges, depending on your personal preferences and spending limits. The green Axate tab on the side of your screen will always let know when you’ve been charged. The tab will also allow you to see prices, your progress towards the weekly “free point” and give you access to your account details.

7/ HOW MUCH WILL I BE CHARGED?

If you choose pay-per-article, you can get started by uploading as little as £1 into your wallet. When your wallet runs low, you decide how much to top up. If you don’t spend anything your wallet stays at the same balance.
Subscriptions are only £5 per month. You can cancel your subscription at any time.

8/ HOW DOES THE DAILY LIMIT WORK?

Axate offers two ways to pay: pay-per-article or subscription. If you choose “pay per article”, paid articles are £0.50 each, but reading just twp article will give you free access to the whole of musicOMH for the rest of the day. If you forget our prices, just click on the green tab in the top left of your screen to open your Axate wallet. This system means you never spend more than you want each day, whether you read three, five, 10 or more of our longer stories*

9/ HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY FREE ACCESS OR MY SUBSCRIPTION ENDS?

To check when the free reading period ends, just click the green Axate tab on the left of your screen to open your Axate wallet.

To check when your subscription ends, again, click the green Axate tab on the left of your screen to open your Axate wallet, then click the settings icon in the bottom left of the wallet to flip. Your subscription details are listed on the back of the Axate wallet. We also send you an email about your subscription when it starts, and also each time it renews.

10/. HOW DO I CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION?

Click on the green Axate tab, then click on the settings icon in the bottom right of the window. This will flip the window. On the back of the window, slide the subscription button to “off”, then follow the prompts. We’ll send you an email to confirm the cancellation. You’ll still be able to get full access to all our articles until the end of your subscription period, and after that, just use your Axate wallet to read via our pay-per-article option.

11/ DO I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS EVERY TIME?

No. Once you’ve signed up, the payment for each article is instantaneous. You won’t have to continually enter your payment details, or sign up for multiple sites. If you choose to pay automatically, you won’t even have to click anything. This system cuts out any hassle.

Even better, if you go to another Axate-enabled site it will just work there, too, without any more signing-up or topping-up.

12/ WHAT IF I WANT TO RE-READ SOMETHING?

Having paid for an article once, you can re-read it whenever you like, at no extra cost. If you wish to go back to something six months later, you can – there’s no time restriction.

13/ CAN I GET A REFUND

When you sign up for pay-per-article, you can cancel within 14 days and you’ll get a full refund of your unspent balance. Subscriptions start immediately, and are not refundable, but you can cancel at any time, and you won’t be charged again after cancelling.

13/ CAN I USE MY AXATE WALLET ON OTHER SITES?

You can use your Axate wallet on a wide and expanding range of other titles. To keep up to date on where you can use Axate, just click here. If you sign up through us you will be helping to support us - even if you use the money to read articles elsewhere. musicOMH benefits every time you add money to your Axate wallet, regardless of where you spend the money. We think Axate have set up a sensible system of funding for digital publishing. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to graze across various websites without having to sign up or subscribe separately to each one.
